A Labradoodle is cheerful, social, and inviting to people and other dogs. It is very cooperative, curious and confident in new environments. Thanks to its gentle temperament, many say the Labradoodle makes a good family dog. The Labradoodle requires a lot of exercise and activation to feel good, and they thrive in water. Contact with people is also very important for this particular dog.
Fur care of a Labradoodle
The Labradoodle does not shed much hair and is therefore considered suitable for people with allergy problems. However, saying that the Labradoodle is an allergy-friendly dog is not always accurate. Many people with allergies have no problem living with a Labradoodle, but this is not true for everyone. If you are thinking of getting a Labradoodle, it may be a good idea to test and meet a Labradoodle to see if you have any allergy problems.
Labradoodle coats can vary, from wool to fleece coats. The coat should be soft and can be straight, wavy or have medium curls. Labradoodles' coats require quite a lot of care and you should brush through the coat once a week. From puppyhood to about 18 months, you should comb through the coat 3-4 times a week. The coat needs to be clipped about 4-6 times a year, depending on the desired length.
Claw clipping
Of course, your dog's claws need to be taken care of! Claws are clipped as needed, but a recommendation is not to wait too long, once a month maybe adequate. It's better to clip a little and often than a lot and rarely. You need to get your dog used to have its claws clipped from an early age, in the claw clipping course in the Lassie sppwe give you our best tips on how to clip your dog's claws!
Weight Control
Be careful about how much dog food you give your Labradoodle as they are prone to obesity. As a Labradoodle owner, you need to help your dog maintain the correct weight. You can do this partly by learning about weight control in our app course but also by learning about how to determine if your dog's coat is good, which you can also learn about in our app.
Lameness
A common problem is that the Labradoodle can suffer from lameness. You can learn more about the different types of lameness and what to do if your dog is lame in this our course.
Skin problems
Labradoodles can also suffer from skin diseases and/or allergies. Learn more about skin infections and allergies and symptoms of allergies in the Lassie app.
